Everyone has heard of "beauty foods" or "super foods", but no one has really taken the time to explain what on earth those terms actually mean. These fancy named foods are simply foods that are rich in nutrients that help support bodily functions to maintain the healthiest body possible. The theory behind it is that you can eat your way to perfect skin if you load the body with nothing but goodness. We're sharing some of our favorites with you!

-Kimchi: Probiotic rich, this funky fermented cabbage keeps hair shiny and skin clear with selenium. It supports gut flora, which is vital in keeping skin clear, and helps your body prevent wrinkles from forming in the long run. Try it as a side dish for your meal!

-Goji Berries: These teeny, tiny red berries pack a punch! They contain tons of vitamins A and C, which are vital for preventing illness and building immunity. They also contain beta carotene, an essential plant phytochemical that is known to promote healthy skin. Try them as a yogurt topping, in oatmeal, or as a straight up snack!

-Pomegranates: Resembling little rubies, pomegranates aren't just pretty to look at. They're loaded with vitamins A, C, and E, as well as folic acid. They help grow strong skin and nails, and neutralize free radical damage in the body. There's almost three times as much antioxidants in pomegranates as there is in red wine or green tea! Try them fresh from the rind!

-Edamame: Classified as a legume, this lean green little bean is full of folate, which helps strong hair and nails grow. Try it boiled and lightly salted for a yummy mid day snack!

-Dark Chocolate: Not just a yummy treat! Dark chocolate is loaded with antioxidants to help prevent the body from free radical damage, which would start premature aging. It's also vitamin and mineral rich, and helps stimulate collagen production (no sagging or wrinkles here!) and repair skin.Try having a shard of dark chocolate as dessert, or make dark chocolate cookies!

-Eggs: You heard it here- eggs are not bad for you. They're one of the most nutritious, low calorie, yet affordable foods on the planet. They're chock full of vitamins and minerals that help grow long, strong hair and nails, and promote healthy skin. They contain choline, an incredibly important nutrient that helps build cell membranes. Have them scrambled, over easy, or poached, but definitely make sure to incorporate eggs in your diet!

-Tomatoes: Technically, tomatoes are a fruit! They're low calories and low carb, so no need to worry about spiking blood sugar. They're crazy high in vitamins c, a, and k, to support immunity, sion, and skin health. They also have lycopene, an antioxidant that is also the reason tomatoes are red. Lycopene helps prevent UV damage in your body, and is great for your eyes and your heart. Try them in a caprese salad, as a pizza topping, or as a pasta sauce!

-Flax, Chia, and Hemp Seeds: Tiny but mighty! They provide plant powered protein, fiberOmega 3s, and minerals. They also help protect against the sun, may help reduce severity of acne, may help alleviate dry, itchy skin, and can help boost hair growth. Try them sprinkled over oatmeal, blended into smoothies, or baked into muffins!
